I’ve totally neglected this blog, I know, but for a reason: I’m no longer in Korea! Yup, I said so long to Seoul last month and returned to America, not before taking a final trip to Japan, though, which I will cover in a later post. Anyway, here is a very, very belated post about my final vegan find in Seoul: Babione. If you’re craving wholesome Korean food, but lacking the time to partake in a multi-course temple cuisine meal, then Babione is definitely worth checking out.
Sometimes it feels like there are just way too many things to do in Seoul. I actually really miss just being bored, and having time to laze around doing nothing but reading, listening to music, and staring off into space. Spending a weekend indoors just seems like such a waste now that the subway’s a skip away and there are so many places to go, things to see, and (most importantly) yummy stuff to eat! Anyway, last weekend marked my favorite Korean holiday: Buddha’s Birthday! And this year I finally managed to catch the Lotus Lantern Parade~! ❤

I can’t believe how often we eat out nowadays! It’s nice cuz there are so many sweet spots for vegan food in Seoul, but it’s not really helping my efforts to save money… I guess that was the one pro about living in Ulsan: we ate in just about every day, and I was definitely cooking a lot more…like, A LOT more. Oh well.
Last weekend, we attended our first Vegan Flea Market, hosted by VOTU (Vegan Community) and held in the cute vegan cafe Mimi & Kelly’s in Insadong!
Well, I realize I totally missed out on putting up a Christmas post, and now it feels like it’s way too late to even shout “HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!” without looking like a big ol’ weirdo, but life’s been busy! Our hagwon director surprised us with the ever-so-thoughtful Christmas gift of telling us he’d secretly sold his school and was terminating our contracts early (on Christmas-frickin’-Eve!!), so Christmas was spent frantically sending out CVs and feeling totally stressed out and screwed over. Anyway, we’d booked a holiday to Hong Kong earlier in the year, and we did contemplate cancelling it after we’d received this bad news, but I insisted that I NEEDED a vacation, so we went ahead with it anyway (and I’m super happy we did cuz it rocked!)
First things first: DA FOOOOOD! We were shocked by the quantity and quality of vegan food in Hong Kong. I mean, Korea loves its meat, but in Hong Kong we saw all sorts of stomach-churning sights (whole ducks, chickens, and pigs hanging in windows, old ladies selling chicken feet on the street, boxes of shark fins, lizards impaled on sticks, deer fetuses…I mean, I can keep going on if you’d like me to, but I would kinda rather stop!) So, we basically weren’t really expecting to have much luck in finding cruelty-free cuisine, BUT WE WERE SO WRONG!
I’ve mentioned Cafe Sukara in multiple posts on this blog, and even though I’ve enjoyed their scrumptious meals, drinks, and desserts on countless occasions, I don’t think I’ve ever actually done a review with directions and menu photos. So, here we go!
October’s a special month for me this year, and not just because Halloween falls on a Friday (though that is pretty darn awesome.) This month marks my one year vegan-niversary (is that a thing?!), which seems totally crazy to me right now; time has just flown past! After we returned to Korea from a long weekend in Osaka last October, I had one last KFC (don’t judge meee~), and have been eating animal-free ever since then! Becoming vegan has definitely made me feel a lot healthier. I know I’m totally jinxing myself, but I actually can’t remember the last time I was sick…which is pretty darn impressive for someone who works with snotty kids all day! Anyway, my body just feels good, and I feel way happier, too; no more guilt of saying how much I love animals while chomping into a bacon sandwich…
Anyway! Last week, we had a three-day weekend, so we gorged on all our favorite goodies and took a stroll through sunny Seoul Forest (with Duggie, of course!)
Even though there are loads of Loving Hut vegan restaurants all over Seoul, they mostly serve the same stuff: Korean stews, pizzas, breaded cutlets…basic comfort food, really! Thien Dang Loving Hut in Namseong is the first one I’ve found that actually specializes in one cuisine, in this case, Vietnamese food!
We visited all of the grandest temples and shrines in Kyoto on our initial visit, but we overlooked Toji Temple: a UNESCO World Heritage Site founded in the 700’s! Luckily, it was located within walking distance from our hotel, so we stopped by for a gander.
